Climate Change > Data & Research

Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC)
Environmental Sciences Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/
CDIAC archives and disseminates climate and Greenhouse gas (GHG) data. Data available includes: global, regional, and national annual CO2 emissions from fossil fuel burning, atmospheric CO2 data, global and U.S. temperature and precipitation data, sea level data, trace gas emissions data, and more. CDIAC also distributes and produces reports and newsletters.

Climate Data
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration  (NOAA)
  http://www.noaa.gov/climate.html
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is responsible for supporting climate, weather and ocean science and research, and disseminating this information to the public. The site contains information about climate change, climate models, meteorology and climate data archives for the U.S.

Earth Resources Observations Systems Data Center (EROS)
  U.S. Geological Survey
  http://edc.usgs.gov/
USGS gateway to data and land information images from aerial photos and satellites. Specific products available include land cover maps, elevation maps and other maps and images with important geographic information. High resolution orthoimagery of major US cities is being added (these are part of the USGS's "National Map"). These images can be supplemented with layers showing elevation, transportation infrastructure and environmental features of interest.

Global Change Master Directory (GCMD)
  NASA
  http://gcmd.gsfc.nasa.gov/index.html
NASA’s Global Change Master Directory holds more than 15,000 descriptions of Earth and environmental science datasets.

Goddard Institute for Space Studies: Climate Impacts and Forcings Research

  http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/impacts/
Links to research groups and projects, datasets, and science briefs describing research at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research
  United Kingdom Meteorology Office
  http://www.met-office.gov.uk/research/hadleycentre/
Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research is part of the UK's Meteorological Office. The Centre analyzes past climate, and future emissions scenarios to produce global and regional climate models. The site provides access to Hadley's data sets of observed climate data from around the world, and information about Hadley's climate modelling.

International Research Institute for Climate Prediction (IRI)
  Columbia University
  http://iri.columbia.edu/
The mission of the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction (IRI) is to enhance society's capability to understand, anticipate and manage the impacts of seasonal climate fluctuations, in order to improve human welfare and the environment, especially in developing countries. This mission is to be conducted through strategic and applied research, education and capacity building, and provision of forecast and information products, with an emphasis on practical and verifiable utility and partnerships.

IPCC Data Distribution Centre
  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
  http://ipcc-ddc.cru.uea.ac.uk/

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory
  Columbia University
  http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/
One of the leading institutes studying climate change. The website features questions & answers about abrupt climate change.

National Climate Data Center
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
  http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/ncdc.html
National Climate Data Center is the world’s largest archive of recorded weather data. It includes temperature, precipitation, storm data and more.

Northeast Regional Climate Center

  http://met-www.cit.cornell.edu/

Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC)
Center for International Earth Science Information Network
  http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/index.html
NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) provides access to data and information resources that include demographic data, land cover data, indicator data, SRES emissions scenario data and international environmental treaties (including the Kyoto Protocol).
