New York Climate Rescue

NYCR is an all-volunteer group working to address global warming in NY City. Its mission is "to inform and mobilize about carbon pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, global warming and environmental destruction; and to propose, facilitate and advocate for solutions including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable development, renewable energy and technologies, green buildings, energy efficiency, conservation, and other related initiatives in the New York metropolitan region".

The Regional Plan Association is an independent, not-for-profit planning organization that improves the quality of life and the economic competitiveness of the 31-county NY-NJ-CT region through research, planning, and advocacy. RPA has created a spatial database for the entire 31 County Metropolitan Area of NYC. There are several examples of RPA maps on the site, as well as numerous links to sources of GIS data.

This paper summarizes the planning and procedures for evacuating the Rockaways in the event of a hurricane, nor'easter or other large coastal storm associated with storm surge and flooding.
